+Before realising the next steps, the user should install the following components from the CD-Rom:
+  * Firebird 2.5
+  * PAM
+To install Firebird on the computer, it is recommended to setup the database server
+as a “service” either with Microsoft Windows. In case this has been done correctly,
+the program can be started and used immediately. If there is another database to be
+selected or PAM is not operating yet, the user needs to adopt the following settings
+as described in the chapters **Database server** and **PAM Client**.
+===== Database Server =====
+At least one database server is required for the use of PAM. The database shall be
+installed as a service, so that the program is available independently for
+users who are logged in at the computer. The user is likely to install Firebird 2.5 and
+should work on the database (PAM2.1.gbd), which is already given in the installation
+index.
+After the installation of the database the user should perform the following actions:

+===== PAM-Client =====
+There is an interactive setup script for the installation of the PAM client. Follow the
+instructions of the setup script to install the PAM client.
+The PAM client requires a local Firebird installation and also installed dongle
+drivers.
+===== Installation of PAM =====
+The concrete installation of PAM takes place exclusively via the program files which
+contain the data file //pam.ini// in the folder //<user>\applicationdata\KTP\PAM2.1\//.
+Each of the existing lines stands for a new entry, which describes certain
+configuration features of the program. Usually there should not occur any problem to
+work with the standard settings. Only if problems occur or there are remaining
+configuration requests, it is recommended to adapt one or more of the following
+settings.
+  * **Language setting**: Within the //language// entry the user can indicate the language which PAM should employ. Up to now the user can only choose between English (en) or German (de). Additionally, it is possible to adapt the requested language later when working with the program, namely under the menu item //Options > language//.
+  * **Administrator password**: Within the //databaseUser// and //databasePassword// entry the user should set up a user name and a password. Up to now these are //sysdba// and //masterkey//. These are the administrator login including the password of the system.
+  * **Accessibility of servers**: The entry //expectServerlsReachable// informs whether the program within the database administration should be tested constantly if a certain server is available (when set //true//), or whether it will chose an optimistic variable assumes that each server can be reached, in case it does exist.
+  * **Verification of a database**: The entry //expectDatabaselsReachable// in-forms whether the program within the database administration assumes that a selective database really exists. After installing PAM, this entry usually is set //false// (i.e. there is an examination taken place). It is rec-ommended, though, to set //true// as soon as the user altered the pass-word on one or several servers as standard password (//masterkey//) for the SYSDBA (database administrator).
+  * **Port transfer**: The entry //addPortnumberToConnection// informs whether with the attempt to create a connection with a database, the number of the activated port (3050: Firebird-System) is also transferred. This setting can be of significance, namely in case of a repeated failing connection with certain database.

+Besides the already mentioned //pam.ini// configuration files, there are //databases.ini//.
+The latter belong to the known databases and we have //user.ini// which contains all
+known usernames and the “server.ini” which saves the familiar server names. For
+further information on this point, read //**database administration**// and //**server- and user
+administration**//. Data files should therefore not be deleted.
+===== Importing old Databases (PAM 1.3)  =====
+To open the Database Copy Wizard, you must set in the //pam.ini// the entry
+//startDatabaseCopyWizard// to //true//. This is an interactive mode in which an older
+version of the PAM1.3 database can be selected. Afterwards, the program tries to
+export the former into the already existing PAM2.1 – database.

+If the import of these data fails, the dialog is expanded to additional fields if
+necessary. Now it is possible to name a different user (including password) for the
